Our wines

Reds

2021 Vinelea Shiraz

Almost opaque, deep red to purple colour. A delicious spicy nose with hints of white pepper, cinnamon, violets and sweet oak. The palate is distinctly Northern Rhone in style. With a medium weight, black berry fruits in abundance, some smoky/leathery character, great balance and excellent length, the wine becomes richer and more complex with every taste.

Very similar to the 2018 Vinelea Shiraz, this wine has a big future and will continue to flesh out for the next 5 to 8 years, but should remain sound and a pleasure to drink for many years.

Diam cork. 14.5% Alc.

2021 Pinot Noir

A wine with excellent balance, weight and flavour, our 2021 Pinot Noir displays excellent tannin, acid and fruit in equal measures, and as always, great length. The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed & crushed in the cool of the autumn morning, left to soak for a day, then inoculated with starter cultures of yeast from our own vineyard. Fermentation was allowed to reach 32 deg C, and then a post-ferment extraction of 2 days to set colour. After pressing, the wine was racked to 50% new barrels for elevage, racked once, and then bottled 12 months later.

The wine has the characteristic deep red hue, a complex, heady nose with sour cherry and oak notes, and the palate is generous, rich and dry, but not overpowering. All is in balance.

There were only 2 barrels produced, so get in quickly if you’d like to try it.

Whites

2018 Vinelea Chardonnay

All fruit from our own vines, hand picked, crushed and pressed in the cool of the morning, barrel-fermented cool, lees-stirred, 100% malo-fermented, no filtration, bottled under perfect Diam corks.

Bright gold in colour, sharp and clear. Closed nose on first opening, developing rich stone fruit and candy notes, and some oak sweetness. On the palate the wine starts with ripe citric notes, then follows the signature chardonnay bitter/sweet fruit and finishing with delicate oak sweetness. Excellent body, but not cloying. Very good length, citrus notes persist. This vintage saw higher percentage oak and longer barrel-time than previous vintages. On release (autumn 2020) it was more closed than usual, but is developing weight and roundness with age.

2021 Vinelea Chardonnay

Golden yellow and crystal clear, the wine shines brightly in the glass. The nose hints at the complex flavours to come, with oak, yellow stone fruit and touches of citrus prominent.

This is a rich, complex and full-bodied chardonnay with layers of oak, citrus, ripe peaches, honey and just a hint of reduction. It has excellent length and is just at the beginning of its journey – it is indeed highly reminiscent of the 2016 Vinelea Chardonnay, which is still developing beautifully in the bottle.

As with all Vinelea wines, it is made to evolve gracefully over the years, and comes with a diam cork closure.

14% Alc.

2017 petit-blanc

A 60/40 Marsanne/Roussanne blend, picking and processing was done as per the chardonnay, with the exception of tank fermentation, then 18 months barrel aging and 12 months in bottle prior to release.

The wine has real body for a white wine, a generous floral nose, strong acid backbone and great length. It’s not a fruit-driven wine, but has a mellowness and honeydew mid-palate that really carries the wine, with just a touch of spice, making it an absolute pleasure to drink.

It is listed in some of Australia’s best restaurants-

2021 petit-blanc

A delicate, clear, pale yellow with excellent clarity, almost polished. The nose is quite closed on first taste, but soon develops sweet floral characters reminiscent of citrus blossom and honeysuckle. The palate is complex, with excellent acid up front, then comes the evolution of delicate guava, gooseberry and a touch of lemon, with outstanding length and a generous weighty finish. Whilst brighter than previous petit-blanc releases, this wine has the structure and character to evolve into a classic white hermitage and will continue developing for 10 years plus.

Marsanne & Roussanne are greatly underrated grape varieties that suit the Australian climate well, and when handled delicately, make a superlative wine. 60/40 Marsanne/Roussanne blend.

Diam cork closure, 13.8% Alc.
